I’m gratified to announce that my short story, The Arrest, has been accepted by NonBinary Review, a publication of Zoetic Press, to appear in their weekly online Alphanumeric feature. I submitted this story to be considered for publication in NBR’s eighth issue, The Art Of War by Sun Tzu.
Zoetic Press is an interesting publishing house in that it does not publish online, and does not publish paper books. Instead, ZP creates interactive, immersive ebooks using the Lithomobilus ereader, and is reading fiction, non-fiction and poetry that takes advantage of the Lithomobilus platform.
The Arrest is the story of Simon Rosencreutz, a conscript officer in the Holy Army of the Revolution, who wants nothing more than to escape from Zoorland, a strange, dangerous blend of revolutionary Russia and Iran. Trapped on a bloody fighting front, under assault from a vicious commissar priest bent on his execution, beset with conspiracy on every side, uncertain who to trust, and in constant mortal peril, Rosencreutz can only rely on his keen wits, deadly aim, and iron nerve to survive.
The Arrest is an excerpt (the first chapter, specifically) from Escape From Byzantium, my 50,000 word fantasy novella that won the 2010 Independent Publisher Silver Medal for F/SF. Originally published by Withersin Press, the novella is sadly no longer in print. My sincere thanks to Zoetic Press and editor Allie Marini for their acceptance of this story.
