As previously announced, my hardboiled, period crime story, Trainwreck, was accepted by Near To The Knuckle and is now up on their website. As always, it’s great to see your work in print and I’m particularly pleased with this story’s appearance. The text is eminently readable and the cover illustration deftly evokes the feel of the piece.

While I’ve been writing in various genres for some time, I seem to have had more luck with crime fiction than any other type. Something about violence and breaking the law just seems to soup up my writing gears. Mostly I’ve written about Alec Pargrew, the cowhand PI, but I’ve also done stories about other characters and in non-contemporary time settings. This was my first effort at writing about the Depression. Sincere thanks to the editors of Near To The Knuckle , a grateful tribute to Dashiell Hammett, the man who invented hardboiled prose, and a tip of the hat for the germ of the story to Carl Panzram, a genuinely real hardboiled specimen, that is, a psychopath and murderer.
