My biker horror story, Last Of The Aztec Riders, has been accepted for publication by Deadman’s Tome. I wrote this story in the extreme horror vein. (I know full well as I type this that an army of horror fanatics will rise as one ghoul from the grave to denounce me as a hopeless squish with absolutely no idea of extremity in horror at all, not even if you sawed my limbs off one by one.) This is the diametric opposite of humor in a jugular vein (old Mad Magazine joke).

Deadman’s Tome’s editor, Jesse E. Dedman, is very much in the market for extreme horror. In his own words, “We pride ourselves in publishing material thought too morbid, too graphic, and too insane for others to handle. Horror short stories saturated with terror for those insane enough to read them. Macabre content that dares to distort your fragile reality. If you want horror, dark fiction, eerie sacrifice, and weird fiction from new and established authors than Deadman’s Tome delivers a fresh dose every month. Your craving for horror will be satisfied, but if you’re anything like me, it crawls from its hole and demands for more after some time.”

I’ve always had a hard spot in my spleen for bikers, largely due to the fact that my brother used to hang out with scooter trash over forty years ago. He desperately wanted to join the Pagans and used to get very angry when I pointed out: 1) he didn’t have a motorcycle; and 2) he didn’t even have a driver’s license. This is pretty much the level of brains that I expect from bikers. Like many things I loathe, I have a morbid fascination with the subject and have read several books on bikers to include Hunter Thompson’s classic Hells Angels, and the very derivative books by Yves Lavigne. One of the more recent ones is No Angel – My Harrowing Undercover Journey to the Inner Circle of the Hells Angels by Jay Dobyns. This is where I got a lot of the detail for this story. Apparently a controversial subject in his own right, I make no assertions as to the accuracy of Dobyns’s revelations in the book. He does seem, however, to have a very detailed grasp of the whole miserable biker scene.

Last Of The Aztec Riders will appear in Deadman’s Tome on October 7. Is it extreme horror, the sort of thing that makes stomachs turn and tears fall? Yes, it is, but don’t let a little thing like that dissuade you or else you’ll miss out on one wild, wild ride!
